Something As Simple As Knowing How To Fall Asleep
Can At Times Be Difficult
There are some things that you just know how to do,
and one of those things is how to fall asleep. It seems simple enough, but you
would be surprised how hard it can be for many adults to do just that every
night. I am one of those people. I have been having problems falling asleep for
the last few months, and even though I know I have a lot on my mind, I don’t
know the exact reason why I can’t seem to fall asleep when I am exhausted and
lying in my bed.
I can’t seem to remember how to fall asleep. I toss and turn, and no matter how
tired I am, I lay there for hours staring at the ceiling while thoughts run
through my mind that I could easily put off until the next day. My husband has
no problems knowing how to fall asleep each night, and each snore seems to mock
me. It’s not that I don’t want to sleep. I love to sleep. It’s just that I can’t
seem to get there. On the rare nights when I do start to drift off right away my
daughter chooses that time to get up and wake me up. It’s enough to make me cry.
One of the first things a baby does is to learn how to eat, and then they learn
how to fall asleep on their own. Parents may have to help them at first, but it
soon becomes something that they do all on their own. Knowing how to fall asleep
isn’t even a skill, but when you are an adult; it is a matter of knowing how to
turn your mind off. Somewhere along the line I lost that skill. Perhaps the
things on my mind need to be resolved, I’m not sure, but that’s the only thing I
can think of at the moment.
I have even looked online for information on how to fall asleep, and it seems
that the only answer anyone has is to either meditate or medicate. I have tried
meditation in an attempt to relearn how to fall asleep, but that has not worked
for me. I do not want to take medication until all else fails. All I know is
that I am mean, cranky, and operating on too little sleep. My body is not
responding well, and my brain has slowed down. If I don’t get some sleep soon, I
might just have to try the medications, even though it’s the last thing that I
want to do.
